I see my future in the ‘Air’

Don’t go by the title, by no means I mean that my future is uncertain. I mean I see it literally being spent in ‘air’ in a plane.

It took me almost 24 hours to get from Portland Airport to the Philadelphia Airport which actually is enough for me to fly to India and not get tired by it.

(Random: Just to make it easy I would like to call airports by the short names, I kinda know most, just saves me some trouble, so basically 24 hours to get from PDX to PHL)

So American Airlines decided the easiest (cheapest really) to fly me back home would be to fly me to SEA from PDX, then DFW from SEA and then finally PHL from DFW.

Here is the thing though, why in the world couldn’t they fly me from PDX to DFW directly. Why? What’s the point? Especially when they kept on asking people to give up their seats for the flight from PDX to SEA. Why? Beyond me.

And then at SEA, the plane miraculously decided to have mechanical issues that made us stand on the runway for more than an hour making most people miss their connections in DFW, and obviously I was one of those people.

Now Dallas may be a good city, but it’s in Texas for God’s sake. Public transportation is non-existent in that place, and for someone like me who can’t drive (even though I was just there to sleep for 10 some hours), a city with no public transportation is on my ‘city never to visit’ list.

Anyhoo…

American Airlines did only one good thing that entire trip. Got me a nice hotel to stay in for the night. I walked into West In, and immediately felt relieved. The anticipation of a comfy bed was very fulfilling at that time.

And then I decided to go eat at the bar which should have been just me and my wine and my salad, but that turned out to be the three of us with some army men. Now, never have I interacted with U.S Army men, I have heard stories and tales, but nothing first hand, and so that kicked off one eventful night.

At 10 pm, I was sure of getting at least 5 hours of sleep, by 3 am I realized that will not happen, and hence my awesome comfy bed, in an awesome hotel was not slept on. What a waste. But, I had an amazing night talking about war stories, and army life. So my night in Dallas, became one of the very good nights of my life.

Who knew??

Basically, the point of this whole tale/rant was how I see my future being spent like this like a nomad. I start work soon, and I know I’ll prolly have a project that will require me to fly a lot, and if I get stuck like this all the time, I’ll end up getting no sleep, and never reaching Philly for more than 24 hours.

Sigh!

My future is in the air.

But hey, who’s complaining! My choice, my life!

Vacation from a Vacation

After over three months of sitting at ‘home’ in Philly, it was time to take a vacation from the super long, not much needed, super lazy, over extended vacation.

So here I am, once again, exactly after a year in Portland.

Weirdly, it doesn’t feel like it’s been a year. The weather is more or less the same, I still remember the roads, the city, the conversations, everything is so fresh in my head that it feels like I was just here yesterday.

Anyhoo…

After 10 hours of flying, running from one delayed flight to another, I am here, relaxing, breathing some Oregon air, and it feels good. The best part is, Seattle is just 5 hours away, and I have a good weekend planned there as well.

How much I needed this. Sigh!

Work starts in 15 days, and week one is in NYC. Who knew??

So officially all I’ll be doing from now onwards so living off a suitcase, I mean I knew that was gonna happen, but am I ready for it.

Sorry I got side tracked.

I don’t think I need to write about Portland. I already did that last year. Just saying that it feels good. Just in case everyone was wondering where I disappeared. My frequency is dropping drastically, I know that.

Not many thoughts it seems.

Side tracked once again… gosh!

Basically I am loving this vacation. That is what I wanted to say.

The End.

Phewww….

I think I deserve to be a New Yorker

I was born and raised in a huge city with a million people around. It wasn’t a party place, but still it was a place which didn’t have trees or open grounds. Everyone was always on a move.

Then I came to Philly.

It is an amazing city, but it’s just too slow for me. Everything closes by 2 am (which is still better by Delhi standards I know) and when School is out, every place just seems so dead. I have been here for 5 years, and it is home, but then there is New York City.

Last night my friends and I just decided to drive down to New York at 9 pm and spend the Saturday night there, and once again I realized more than ever, how badly I need to move there. I know I talked about it before but I guess every time I go there, I can’t stop wishing I lived there.

The city just never sleeps. I don’t know it very well yet. I can’t give anyone directions to get from one place to another. I don’t know the best bars in lower Manhattan or  upper Manhattan. I don’t know where to get best food, best sandwiches. But I do know when you live there, you are never alone.

I met some amazing people over drinks. People who have spent there life doing what I do, just for different companies. For someone like me, who believes networking is the key to success, it was like meeting Bill Gates and Mark Zuckerberg and trying to build connections. I just walked the streets on my own, not fearing being alone.I just smiled my way through.

I am not a New Yorker, but I think I deserve to be. I am a city person, and more than that, I am a people’s person. New York is where you can easily get lost in a swarm, but it’s a place where you can smile through the worst night and lose yourself with all the million faces around you.

It is a city for singles and dreamers.

Epiphany 2

“तुम्हे खोने का दर्द इतना है, की और कोई दर्द महसूस ही नहीं होता |”

The above line simply means the pain of losing you is so much, that I can’t feel any other pain. I heard it on a super cheesy romantic comedy tv show that airs in India, and no matter how lame it may sound to the majority of population, it struck a cord with me.

I really wonder if that can happen? When you lose someone, every other pain seems nothing in front of it, or just brings back the pain of losing someone in abundance.

Since I make most of my judgments based on whether I can go through that sort of emotion or not, I would say it can happen. I don’t see much of genuine love around. Most people are just worried about having a ‘someone’ in their lives because they don’t want to be lonely. It’s seldom about the ‘one’. But then again, may be I expecting too much. We do live in a real world after all.

Most people get over losing people, as they should, unless of course their egos come in the way, which usually happen to boys when they are dumped. They go on an endless whine spree and call the girl all sorts of names, because they were dumped. Then my question is, but if you loved her so much, as you claim, why are you wishing bad things for her? Then again, we are human after all, ‘Me’ first is a big policy that we follow.

Basically, I do believe the pain can be so much that it can define your life. But I also believe that it can be hidden, not whined about, kept safe somewhere in your heart, allowed to come out when the times are worst and every other painful thing takes you back to the time when you lost that someone.

But I also know just because I believe that, doesn’t mean other people too. In today’s world, it’s hard to find people who genuinely care about you, leave alone people who fall for you like there is no tomorrow. So the pain spares most people (egos kept aside), and they move on. Which should be a good thing I suppose.

As they all say ‘One goes, the other comes’

Only very rarely, “The one goes, and no one can come’

You know what’s crazy?

Knowing that you are acting crazy and even then refusing to stop acting like that because it’s somehow not in your hands anymore.

You know what’s worse than that?

Knowing that you let it slip out of your hands when you always knew it’ll only make you crazier.

You know why am I saying all this?

Because I know how this whole crazy business goes. I am seeing it everywhere these days.

Too many of those sorries

sorry

I think sometimes, some people overdo their “sorry.”

Its so easy for some people to say, “I am sorry,” after every time they think they did something wrong. They use it so often. After a while it just doesn’t seem genuine anymore, or promising anymore.

Once upon a time a had a friend, a very close one, and even that person over did the sorries, after being the sort who never used, “I am sorry,” for the longest. Somehow being ok after an “I am sorry” makes it a way to get out of anything and everything.

(Too many Chances just  make you look like a fool)

Right now I am thinking how often do I use the “sorry” word. It holds some weight in my head. I guess because I stop taking sorries seriously when they are over done, so I use them carefully.

Which brings me to my other thought, why do I feel they are over done so often. Is it just me, who projects the, “you’ll get away with anything” notion, or is it genuinely a global phenomena?

Oh well. It is high chance it is just me. I do get the weirdest kinds, no matter how normal they are in isolation.

Sigh!

P.S: Too many changes. Too much happening. I miss my family. Bear with the randomest discussions. Not that I don’t say that enough.

Last 29 days

Sorry for the prolonged absence. I am trying to gain some sanity after the immense changes in my life in the past one week. If I don’t make much sense here (not that I always do), I actually do have an excuse this time.

I have 29 more days to work. That’s when officially I will HAVE to make a routine, get up early, sleep on time (may be not all the time), eat well and plan and organize.

I have been counting down the days for so long now that 29 days don’t seem much but somehow the last days always go by so slow, I feel like I am never gonna make it there in this lifetime.

The worst part about being absolutely idle for almost 3 months is that you become so lazy that even the adding pounds to your waist don’t make your alarms ring. The thought of having a routine seems so pleasant but yet so hard to achieve. I could have worked out, ate well, taken up a hobby, sleep on time, woken up on time, but instead I chose the opposite of everything.

I am at a point now where I wonder whatever happened to the good old will power. I am leaving all my life goals to the “when I have a routine.” I have a list of things to do when I start work, but I have a feeling, not much success will be achieved. All I am doing is prolonging.

Things to do when I have a life:

  • Join spinning classes. A must.
  • Eat better. No fries.
  • Save money. Yes save. Not spend on the Gucci shoes I’ve always had an eye own.
  • Sleep better. Early to bed (by midnight or 1 am that is), early to rise will hopefully make healthy, wealthy and wise
  • Go home(India) as soon as possible. See the loved ones. Watch cricket with dad, shop with the sister, just love mom every moment
  • Eff boys. Honestly, right now, they don’t even matter
  • Be a better person

I know some of these are pretty vague. But I only want to do these once I start work. I know I can be a better person right now, but I just don’t want to. These are the past 29 days of my life just to myself, and I ain’t getting them back EVER.

Sigh!

Enough said.

Countdown begins.
